,
I hope you had a restful Thanksgiving with family and friends. I wanted to follow up now after we‘ve gotten official election results back from the Secretary of State’s office.
The 2024 election has been bittersweet for Ohio Senate Democrats. While Democrats lost ground nationally, Ohio Senate Democrats flipped two seats from red to blue while also protecting our incumbent spot.
I know two seats may not sound like a lot, but the last time Senate Democrats did that was 1982! And we managed these wins even after dark money groups spent against us in amounts of 10 to1!
I’m also proud that we are bringing bright new leadership to the Ohio Senate. Senators-Elect Willis Blackshear Jr., Casey Weinstein and Beth Liston are going to be joining our caucus in January. They’re leaders in healthcare, business, and their communities, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the Ohio Senate.
This class of incoming Senate freshmen is the youngest, most diverse that the Senate Democratic Caucus has ever had. Our caucus is excited for them to join and really help us set the tone for the next couple of years.
Certainly I’m proud of these wins, but we aren’t stopping there. We are already focused on the next election cycle in 2026. We have a clear path out of the super minority but it’s going to require that we recruit candidates everywhere and start organizing throughout the state.
If you want to help the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus grow and turn Ohio blue again, please consider giving $26 for our races in 2026!
Donate
Sincerely,
Minority Leader Nickie J. Antonio
Ohio State Senator, SD-23
Ohio Senate Democrats
