Can I tell you about my campaign for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia? In 2017, after Donald Trump was elected President and pushed for a Muslim ban, I knew I needed to step up. I needed to use my voice to help every Virginian who felt voiceless in the face of Trump’s extremism and hate. So, in 2019, even though I was the underdog, I ran and won -- flipping a crucial State Senate seat and giving Democrats the majority we needed to pass an unapologetically progressive agenda. |
When I first ran in 2019, I realized that any one of us can make a difference. We each have a responsibility to raise our voices and stand up against injustice, particularly those injustices that impact our neighbors and our communities. So now, I’m running for Lieutenant Governor to continue that fight – especially now that Trump has been reelected.
I’m running because we are dangerously close to MAGA extremism overrunning our schools, reproductive health care, gun safety measures, voting rights, and much more. I don’t see this office as a stepping stone to enrich myself – I’m running to solidify the Democratic brick wall as our next Lieutenant Governor. We need an accomplished, progressive Senator to do just that.
