Email from Rep. Salazar FL-27 Newsletter Vol. 118, Issue #77 Dear Friends/Amigos, Last week in Washington was marked by a series of accomplishments on the priorities that matter to you, my constituents in Florida's 27th Congressional District. Whether its teaching our future generations about the evils of communism or protecting victims from the abuses of AI, we have secured major wins for our community in the halls of Congress. Read more about those wins below! As always, feel free to share your opinion with us about your priorities for Congress for the rest of the year by calling or writing to my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-3931 or visiting Salazar.House.Gov. Sincerely/Atentamente, María E. Salazar U.S. Representative (FL-27) THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PASSED MY CRUCIAL COMMUNISM TEACHING ACT! Did you know that 1 in 3 members of Gen Z and 1 in 5 Millennials have a positive view of communism? A 2020 poll conducted by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation found that a majority of adults lack understanding of the true meaning and history of communism. My Crucial Communism Teaching Act (H.R. 5349) solves this issue by ensuring middle and high schoolers have access to quality educational materials on the horrors of this evil ideology. I am proud to announce that the House of Representatives did its part to make this legislation reality by overwhelmingly passing my bill on Friday. My constituents in Miami, many of whom have directly escaped communism themselves or know of someone who has, understand the perils of this ideology very well. This bill honors their memories and experiences by teaching future generations that we can never allow communism to take root in the United States. Read more about my bill HERE. MY FORGOTTEN HEROES OF THE HOLOCAUST CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL ACT TO BECOME LAW! I am proud to announce that both the House of Representatives and Senate have passed my Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal Act (H.R. 537/S. 91)! The bill awards more than 60 diplomats from around the world with the Congressional Gold Medal for their efforts to save Jews from perishing in the Holocaust. The legislation passed with a veto-proof majority and is now headed to President Biden’s desk awaiting his signature! Read more about the bill HERE. THE SENATE PASSED MY BILL PROTECTING VICTIMS OF DEEPFAKE REVENGE PORN! The U.S. Senate unanimously passed S. 4569, the companion version of the TAKE IT DOWN Act (H.R. 8989) that Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) and I introduced earlier this year. The TAKE IT DOWN Act protects victims of real and deepfake ‘revenge pornography,’ a crime that is increasingly and rapidly affecting our nation’s youth. The bill solves the problem of inconsistent, or non-existent, legislation protecting victims of deepfake pornographic images at the state level and the issues victims face when removing images of themselves in a timely manner, potentially contributing to spread and retraumatization. Read more about the TAKE IT DOWN Act HERE. CASEWORK TESTIMONIALS! My office is one of the best in Congress and is always happy to help our constituents with federal casework.
