The maximum WEP reduction reduces my earned benefits, and the GPO denies my spousal benefits. All because I chose to serve my community as an educator.

SIGN: Pass the Social Security Fairness Act NOW!

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

There are nearly 2.8 million public service workers impacted by the Social Security Administration's Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) withholdings.1 Public servants who have dedicated their life to service—including firefighters, park rangers, postal workers, and educators—should not be punished and have their Social Security benefits reduced, or in some cases eliminated entirely, due to the flaws in the WEP and GPO. It's time to stop the lawful robbery of our Social Security benefits NOW.

I am a victim of both the WEP and GPO. The maximum WEP reduction reduces my earned benefits, and the GPO denies my spousal benefits. All because I chose to serve my community as an educator.

The Social Security Fairness Act would repeal the WEP and GPO. Right now, the bill has passed in the House and is waiting for a vote by the Senate. But with only weeks until the end of the session, time is running out to pass this critical legislation.

Add your name to the petition to urge the Senate to vote and pass the Social Security Fairness Act now!

Tell Congress: Pass the Social Security Fairness Act NOW!

The GPO was passed in 1977, and, while a spousal issue, 83% of those affected are women. Many of those same people are also hurt by the WEP, passed in 1983 and a direct affront to public service workers.2 Discriminatory in nature, WEP and GPO are outdated and un-American. Those who dedicate their lives to public service and their families deserve the Social Security benefits they earned. And together, we can make sure they receive them.

It's time to stop the blatant inequities of the WEP and GPO and call for a vote on the Social Security Fairness Act so public servants can realize the full breadth of their earned and spousal Social Security benefits.

Will you sign the petition and urge the Senate to vote and pass the Social Security Fairness Act before the end of the year?

Workers deserve the peace of mind of knowing that the Social Security benefits they earned will be available to them when they retire. The Social Security Fairness Act would right the wrong caused by the flaws in the application of WEP and GPO.

The Social Security Fairness Act passed the House in November with remarkable bipartisan support, with 327 House members voting in favor of it. The Senate must do its job and bring this legislation to a vote. A failure to do so would violate our trust in the government to legislate fairly—a value all Americans hold dear.

We don't have a lot of time to get this passed. Click here to add your name to the petition, and then share with three friends to help spread the word.

Thanks for all you do.
