J Street

Friends,

J Street’s allies in Congress are asking their colleagues to sign an urgent letter to President Biden calling on him to make clear that the US cannot tolerate the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The deadline for representatives to sign has just been extended until Tuesday.

As families desperately try to keep their children fed and secure shelter as winter sets in – and the prospects under Trump grow darker – President Biden still has an opportunity to save lives and show true moral leadership.

Friends: Can you read, sign and share our petition to Congress now?

Please take a moment to read the followup email after signature, with next steps on contacting your Member of Congress directly.

Thank you for joining us in this critical effort. Together, we have to make clear to President Biden that his legacy – and countless innocent lives – hang in the balance.

The Netanyahu government’s continued obstruction of humanitarian aid and disregard for the safety of innocent Palestinian families caught up in this war serves nobody. It remains a searing violation of our Jewish values that bring hostages no closer to freedom, nor Hamas any closer to defeat. It’s inflicting generational damage on families in Gaza while doing lasting damage to Israel’s standing worldwide, including among the next generation of Jewish Americans.

Together, we must demand action to stand up for our shared values. Read, sign and share our petition here >>

Thank you for your consideration.

Adina Vogel Ayalon, Vice President and Chief of Staff

Right now, J Street’s allies in Congress are urging their colleagues to sign a congressional letter designed to ramp up the pressure on President Biden to save lives and reverse course of the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

There’s still time for consequential action in Biden’s final days in office, but we must act now.

Friends: Can you add your name to our petition calling on as many Members as possible to sign on to this urgent letter?

The situation in Gaza is desperate: Doctors performing amputations without sedatives. Children crushed in stampedes for food. Families scavenging for scraps among mounds of rubble.

The past year has made clear that the Netanyahu government’s approach is both a moral and strategic failure, and offers no path to lasting security or safety for hostages. It’s a searing violation of our Jewish values that’s inflicting generational pain on Palestinians while causing lasting damage to the US-Israel relationship.

This congressional letter – led by Representatives Jason Crow, Chrissy Houlahan and Madeleine Dean – makes clear that Members of Congress are fed up.

By all metrics, including Israel’s own, the Biden Administration’s benchmarks outlined in October still have not been met, and it’s long past their 30-day deadline. Crossings remain closed. Commercial deliveries remain suspended. North Gaza remains almost entirely cut off.

US laws clearly require the president to follow a clear process if governments receiving military aid are found to be obstructing humanitarian aid. There can be no more delay. President Biden must take further action to ensure Israel's compliance with US law.

The deadline for signature is currently this Sunday, so it’s important for representatives to hear from us and prioritize this now. Read, sign and share the petition >>

Please also check your emails after signing for details on how to follow up with your Member of Congress.

As we continue to emphasize, President Biden has the authority to exempt Iron Dome and other defensive systems from any weapons pauses, and we urge him to do so.

Thank you, sincerely, for taking the time to read this email and for taking action.

All hands on deck,

Lily Adelstein
Deputy Director of Government Affairs, J Street
