Now is the time to recruit candidates for downballot races. We’re focusing on the hundreds of local elections that can build progressive cities and states to protect people from Trump’s extremism and, frankly, corporate Democratic policies, too.
We did it in St. Louis. Our coalition flipped the local Board of Aldermen and elected a progressive mayor to create a progressive majority in the city. As a result, the local government passed civilian oversight of the police, raised the minimum wage, stopped the privatization of the St Louis airport, passed tenant rights and rights for the unhoused, and started a guaranteed basic income pilot program.
This is just one example of what we can and must do locally and nationally to create positive change for people.
We need to recruit and support outside-the-box leaders to throw their names in the ring. The Democratic Party is not organized, so WE need to step into that void. We’re doing all of this work now and in preparation for crucial upcoming DNC meetings. Are you in?
