Monday, December 2, 2024: During the Thanksgiving break, I had a number of interviews including with NewsNation to discuss an op-ed I had in the Washington Post recently describing how I sleep in my office in Washington and an interview on Fox News to discuss our slim majority in the House next session as well as the Trump Cabinet nominees. I also joined in on a couple of all staff conference calls and on Thanksgiving Day I had a second interview on Fox News to discuss Trump Cabinet nominees who are receiving bomb threats and swatting incidents. On Black Friday, I was excited to join my good friend Scott Ryfun on Straight Talk radio as he allowed me to play some of my favorite Christmas tunes. This past weekend I was honored to join my good friend David Dickey at the St. Andrew’s Society Banquet in Savannah as we celebrated our Scottish heritage. I’m in Hinesville in Liberty County this morning for a very special ceremony that has been over a year in the making. Some time back I was invited by community members led by veteran Bruce McCartney to a meeting to discuss naming the VA center in Hinesville after four Liberty County natives who were killed during the Vietnam War. As I have said numerous times, I entered the meeting thinking there was no way we were going to be able to get the center named after four people. After attending the meeting and hearing the stories from friends and family of the four heroes, I left the meeting thinking there was no way we were going to NOT be able to make this happen. After much work and the sheer determination of these great community members the center was renamed today for John Gibson, Dan James, William Sapp and Frankie Smiley, the four Liberty County heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War. After the ceremony, I head to Darien in McIntosh County and during the drive, I have a phone interview with a student from the University of Georgia who is doing a research paper on the Okefenokee Swamp. Once in Darien, I join our district staff for a Christmas lunch where I am able to share with them how much their hard work is appreciated. Afterwards, I head to downtown Savannah in Chatham County and during the drive, I have a phone interview with E & E News to comment on the great work that the outgoing Chair of the Energy and Commerce (E&C) Committee, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers (R-WA) has done with the committee. After a 20+ year career, Cathy is retiring this year. Once in Savannah, I join Chief Judge Stan Baker for a tour of the construction progress at the Tomochichi Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse that is scheduled to be completed in Summer 2026.

Tuesday, December 3, 2024: I’m back in Savannah this morning as I join the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce on Hutchinson Island for their annual Bills and Biscuits Legislative Breakfast before heading to the Savannah Airport for my flight to Washington. During the drive to the airport, I have a phone conference with Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Mike Boggs to discuss pending legislation in Congress followed by our all staff conference call. Once back in our Washington office, I have a series of meetings including with scheduling staff, communications staff, district staff and legislative staff. After a visit with Joe Fowler with Common Thread Ministries who leads a weekly prayer conference with three of my minister friends from the district and comes to the Capitol once a month to pray with me, I have more meetings with staff before heading to our weekly Whip Team meeting. Next, I head to the House Chamber for our first vote series of the week and afterwards pay tribute to Chatham County Sheriff John Wilcher who is retiring after 49 years of service.

Afterwards, I head to the Capitol Plaza where I lead a bi-partisan, bi-cameral press conference with my colleagues in Congress to encourage leadership to take action before the end of this session on bills dealing with the egregious practices of Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM’s). Next, I head to the LEGO Group Build to Give Campaign before heading off Capitol Hill to speak on Energy issues at the 5th Energy Transition Forum. Later in the afternoon, I head to the House Chamber for votes and afterwards head off Capitol Hill where I speak to Ceres, an advocacy group working to accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more just, and sustainable economy.

Afterwards, I head to our weekly Doctor’s Caucus meeting where we hear from E&C Chair Cathy McMorris Rogers about healthcare legislation currently being negotiated and hopefully to be acted upon before the end of this session. Once back in our office, I join in on our all staff conference call before heading to the House Chamber to pay tribute to long time Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Commissioner Joe Tanner who recently passed, Cassandra Cannon from Savannah whose company, Lake, has been included on Inc. magazines 2024 Female Founders 250 list, Kia motors in West Point who is celebrating their 15th anniversary and Georgia Tech who has been voted one of the best public Universities in the U.S. Once back in our office, I meet with the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta before heading to the Capitol Plaza to take pictures with our interns. Once back in our office, I have a series of meetings including with the National Mining Association, the Solar and Storage Industries Association (SEIA), General Motors, and Sunnova. Next, I head to the Capitol Visitors Center (CVC) auditorium where Republican House Members have a fantastic discussion with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who have been tapped by President-elect Donald J. Trump to head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Friday, December 6, 2024: Every year I host our Washington staff on a tour or the White House to admire the Christmas decorations and this morning we are once again amazed how beautiful the decorations are. Once back on Capitol Hill, I head to the House Chamber for our final vote series of the week and afterwards pay tribute to the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech football teams for the historic rivalry game they participated in last weekend and the sportsmanship that was displayed by these two great Universities afterwards. Next, I am live on Politically Georgia with the Atlanta Journal Constitution as we discuss the budget, disaster funding and the lame duck session. Afterwards, I head to the House recording studio where I record a video for the Armed Forces Network, as well as this week’s edition of Buddy’s Briefing and Material Minute. Next, I have the honor of addressing the Telehealth Access for America (TAFA) group that is visiting the Capitol this week before heading back to our office where I have a taped interview with NTD’s Capitol Report.
