Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) just filed a bill to eliminate the Department of Education. This is just the latest offensive in the Far Right's war against public education. We must protect students, teachers, and our schools.
The Department of Education plays a critical role in the operation, maintenance, and success of all schools across the country. Core components of its scope of work include distributing and monitoring federal funds for education; prohibiting discrimination; collecting data on how schools, teachers, and students perform; so that resources can be equitably allocated and working to ensure every student has an equal chance at getting a great education.
For years MAGA Republicans have been eager to get their hands on public education funds and tighten their censorship of what students can read and learn, but we know that most Americans understand how important public education is to the success of our kids and our democracy.
Strong schools are our promise to the next generation. It is our civic responsibility to protect the Department of Education from these sinister right-wing attacks.
