Friend — It’s no secret that Trump’s cabinet is shaping up to be filled with conspiracy theorists and fringe, unqualified figures.
Robert Kennedy Jr. may be one of the most dangerous among them.
RFK Jr.’s ascension to HHS Secretary would be a disastrous outcome for our nation and our ability to provide crucial health programs for our communities.
Not only does he lack the experience and expertise to lead such an important agency that affects millions of people’s lives, but he is at the forefront of some of the worst anti-science, anti-evidence campaigns that have gained steam in recent years.
He refutes the settled, lifesaving science of vaccines, he has spread wild conspiracies about COVID-19, he opposes the safe and effective practice of adding fluoride to water, and has said that Wifi and 5G cellular service are dangerous for your health and used for government control. Really.
And now that he has his eyes on our national health apparatus, he has suggested that he would pause federal research into infectious diseases and proposed cuts to crucial departments that protect Americans’ health, such as the Food and Drug Administration.
RFK Jr. wants to have a say on the health of America, but as a Senator for Massachusetts, I must provide a say for my neighbors who elected me to represent them — and I'm absolutely going to vote no on Robert Kennedy Jr.'s confirmation.
And I hope that other members of the Senate, Democrats and Republicans alike, will also vote no so that Donald Trump presents someone who, in fact, has the qualifications to run the crucial health care systems of our country.
In solidarity,
Ed Markey
