Four must-read pieces to inspire you to join the opposition on the road ahead.

Every Saturday, I send members a weekend reading list with overlooked stories and headlines. This week, I’m recommending some pieces to inspire you to join the opposition. If you enjoy this newsletter, consider upgrading today ([link removed]) . Now, let’s dive in.

It has been a month since Donald Trump was elected and Republicans gained full control of Congress. In the days that followed, we got our first glimpse of the future of our country.

Trump’s nominations have been as bad as we could have feared. House Republicans, who were once in disarray, are united in supporting the most extreme MAGA agenda. The Senate GOP’s new majority looks more likely to be a rubber stamp than the world’s greatest deliberative body.

Most worrisome have been the early signs of capitulation by institutions and individuals. People who proudly proclaimed Trump a fascist when they thought he would lose now seek civility and accommodation. Billionaires who once swaggered the globe now take their private jets to Mar-a-Lago to bow down and kiss the ring.

Among those who have not explicitly moderated, too many have grown suspiciously silent. All of this is before Trump has even been sworn in, signed his first executive order or had his first nominee confirmed. It is a sad and dangerous time.

The news is not all bad, however. Even among the despair is evidence of a new opposition forming. This is something I have called for and believe it is essential to build quickly. For every high profile act of obedience, we are also seeing acts of courage and principle. We must find as much hope in the acts of the good and strong as we find in the anger of the complicity of the weak.

This week, I offer you four must-read pieces to inspire you to join the opposition on the road ahead.
