Our Votes This Week - Critical Legislation to Empower American Small Businesses and Teach American High School Students about the Horrors of Communism

This week, I supported critical legislation to increase and empower American small businesses to support innovation and provide American high school students with crucial educational resources about the horrors of Communism. Top bills are as follows:

  1. H.R. 7198 – Prove It Act – Rep. Brad Finstad (MN-1)
    • This legislation empowers American small businesses to support innovation and drive economic growth and forces federal bureaucrats to better consider the overall effect that government regulation has on small business before finalizing economically burdensome rules.

  2. H.R. 5349 – Crucial Communism Teaching Act – Rep. Claudia Tenney (NY-24)
    • This legislation corrects deficiencies in current tax code to end tax-exempt status for American nonprofits found to be materially supporting designated terrorist groups, including Hamas, and provide fair tax treatment for Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad.

POLITICO: Next Steps in Oversight Subcommittee J6 Investigation

This week, I spoke with POLITICO about the next steps in our House Administration Committee's Oversight Subcommittee investigation into the events of January 6th, discussing the critical need for a more clear structure as we move forward. There is still more work to be done, and I will continue to leave no stone unturned until we get the complete truth and hold all necessary parties accountable.

Rep. Loudermilk Cosponsors Critical Disaster Relief Package for Hurricane Victims

This week, I joined Reps. Vern Buchanan (FL-16), Greg Murphy (NC-3), Drew Ferguson (GA-3) and others as a cosponsor of H.R. 10203, the Hurricane Helene and Milton Tax Relief Act. This legislation provides much-needed tax relief for those impacted by the recent back-to back-hurricanes. This bill would:

  1. Raise the charitable deduction limit to 100% of a person’s adjusted gross income for contributions made towards relief efforts in affected areas, incentivizing donations to relief efforts.
  2. Allow people who are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to use their 2023 earnings as the basis for the credit in their filings for the 2024 tax year.
  3. Allow retirement savers to withdraw up to $100,000 from retirement savings accounts penalty free to pay for disaster-related expenses.
  4. Eliminate the 10% income threshold required to claim certain deductions for losses caused by the storms.
