Dear Ward 8 Residents,

This coronavirus is trying to knock down our community. The data shows 80% of the District's coronavirus related deaths are African-Americans though we represent less than half of the population. We have to fight harder to slow the spread of the virus in our community.

Ward 8 has the highest health disparities per capita, so we are fighting two monsters simultaneously. I need this community to be vigilant in practicing social distancing, wearing face coverings when leaving the house, and staying home whenever possible.

Many community leaders, along with my team, are working to fill in the gaps where there is a need. We are working to mitigate food insecurities, provide masks and gloves to residents and supply our seniors with their essential needs. It will take all of us collectively to combat this virus. I believe that Ward 8 has what it takes. Trust God and know that we will make it through this storm. Stay safe and stay home.
Regards,

Trayon White, Sr.
Councilmember, Ward 8

Mortgage & Rent Deferment Program ()

Mortgage and Rent Savings

On April 7, DC Council passed emergency legislation creating a mandatory 90-day mortgage deferment program for residential and commercial mortgage holders who request one. No late fees or penalties would accrue, and repayment of the deferred amount could be done via payment plan, not through a required balloon lump payment. This program requires landlords to pass along proportionate savings to their tenants if they receive a deferment. View a summary of the entire bill ([link removed]) .
