We must accelerate PEPFAR's Lifesaving work
About 4,000 girls in sub-Saharan Africa acquire HIV every week. Programs like the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, are critical to making sure they have a fighting chance.
To mark World AIDS Day on Dec. 1, Bush Institute Senior Fellow Dr. Deborah Birx and Global Policy Program Manager Hannah Johnson wrote in Devex about the need to reauthorize PEPFAR for another five years so that the program can continue to save lives until the work is complete.
“The world needs to chart an aggressive course to meet the global goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030,” they wrote. “The good news is that by sustaining PEPFAR and its mission, we have the tools to get there.”
