Energy Bill Assistance Workshop & Teach-In graphic with programs help is provided applying for

Energy Bill Assistance Workshop
NEW ADDRESS: 34 West 134th Street

Are you struggling to pay for your energy bills? Come to our workshop with Con Edison and the Public Utility Law Project of New York on Thursday, Dec. 12th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Community Center, which is located at 34 West 134th Street (take Lennox Terrace Place, off of West 135th Street between Malcom X Blvd. & Fifth Avenue).

Bring a copy of your utility bill and a Benefit Awards Letter from the past 12 months (an approval letter for public assistance programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, etc.), and we will help you apply for eligible programs to lower your bill. The event is being co-sponsored by New York State Senators Cordell Cleare (D-30), Robert Jackson (D-31), and Jose Serrano (D-29) as well as New York State Assemblymembers Manny De Los Santos (72) and Yudelka Tapia (D-86). It will mark the official launch of our 2025 advocacy campaign for the NY HEAT Act, with similar events happening all across the state. RSVP

January Membership Meeting: Meet Our New York State Senators & Assemblymembers

January Membership Meeting:
Meet Our New York State Senators & Assemblymembers

Get ready for our first Membership Meeting of 2025! Join us on Saturday, January 11th at 10:00 AM for a chance to meet our New York State Senators and Assemblymembers. We have invited them all to attend, tell us a little about who they are and how they plan to represent us, and hear about environmental and climate justice policies we would like them to support actively.

You don’t have to be a WE ACT member to attend (though it only costs $25 per year – learn more here). Come join us and get involved with our state policy initiatives we are championing in the 2025 legislative session! RSVP

WE ACT Weekly In the News

Leslie Fields’ Op-Ed on the fossil-fuel-friendly Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 was published in Common Dreams. It is part of our ongoing campaign to expose this proposed federal legislation as not only a gift to polluters but also a threat to the health of environmental justice communities.

Manny Salgado was quoted in a Washington Post article on how the new administration’s pledge to go after Justice40 and IRA funding could impact environmental justice.

Our WE ACT TCTAC and Sarah Salem were featured in the Peekskill Herald, which ran a story about the Westchester Alliance for Sustainable Solutions being selected as one of our TCTAC’s Community Voices members. Community Voices is a cohort of community-based organizations serving New Jersey and New York that is helping our TCTAC connect with their local communities and determine regional environmental, climate, and energy justice priorities.
