Mikie Sherrill :: U.S. Congress

I've been fighting to lift the SALT deduction cap to provide immediate relief for hardworking New Jerseyans who are struggling in the wake of the coronavirus.

I'm happy to share that we've made some progress -- the House Majority included a repeal of the SALT cap in the next COVID-19 relief package.

Since its inclusion in the 2017 tax bill, the SALT deduction cap created a real burden for New Jersey families. And it's taken an economic toll on state and local governments, essential public health programs, and first-responder services.

Repealing the SALT deduction cap will put money back into New Jerseyans' pockets and into our state and local governments so they can navigate the pandemic. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is calling this "dead on arrival."

McConnell even said he'd rather let states go bankrupt than give them the aid they need.

McConnell is stonewalling at a very dangerous moment. Washington needs to take action on critical legislation and can't afford for him to keep standing in the way -- not when New Jerseyans' lives and livelihoods are on the line.

Sign our petition and demand Mitch McConnell take action to repeal the SALT deduction cap and provide critical relief for New Jerseyans.

Thank you and take care,

Mikie
