Dear Friends, As we launch our year-end fundraising campaign, “My Faith Says ‘No’ To Torture,” I am writing to invite you to donate to NRCAT to support our work to end the torture of solitary confinement and close Guantanamo prison. Each dollar donated between now and the end of the year will help NRCAT reach our end of year Challenge Match of $30,000. Just this week, the NRCAT co-led Federal Anti-Solitary Task Force (FAST) released this new 3-minute explainer video about the End Solitary Confinement Act. Narrated by NRCAT’s U.S. Prisons Program Director, Johnny Perez, the video describes this federal legislation that holds promise and hope for our work to end the torture of solitary confinement. The End Solitary Confinement Act (ESCA), which currently has 28 U.S. House co-sponsors and 6 U.S. Senate co-sponsors, would end solitary for all people in the federal prison system, including in federally contracted immigrant detention. This takes on added importance after President-elect Trump’s repeated claims that he will detain and deport millions of undocumented immigrants starting on day one. In addition to working on our federal priorities like closing Guantanamo and signing up new House and Senate sponsors for ESCA, NRCAT continues to provide financial support, training, and organizing assistance to 23 state anti-solitary campaigns. Our outreach to faith leaders and solitary survivors in many of these states increased tremendously in 2024, and we have big plans for supporting these state campaigns in 2025. Our legislative chances in some states improved in the 2024 election. In others it did not. Either way, we are in it for the long haul, and your donation ensures that we’ll be there for the duration. Donate today to stand with us in saying “My faith says ‘no’ to torture.” Thanks for your support over the years! We couldn't do this without you. Sincerely, Rev. Ron Stief Executive Director |
