Hi John,
As North Carolina continues to rebuild from the disastrous effects of Hurricane Helene, the GOP is still up to its old tricks.
In case you missed it: The disaster relief bill intended for areas affected by Hurricane Helene was tainted with last-minute provisions the North Carolina GOP snuck in with no public notice. The bill strips power from the state’s incoming Democratic governor and attorney general — redefining how elections are administered.
Despite Trump’s victory in North Carolina, Democrats won five statewide offices: governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, and school superintendent. Now, the North Carolina GOP preemptively stripped their power before being sworn in.
Instead of putting forth a bill prioritizing the communities affected by Hurricane Helene, the North Carolina GOP passed a bill focused on power grabs and division. This is a direct attack on democracy and a foreboding omen of what’s to come under a GOP-dominated government.
But, I need to know what you think. John: Do you approve of the North Carolina GOP’s actions to undermine the hurricane relief bill’s initiative by sneaking in Democratic power-stripping provisions? Please share your thoughts in the survey below: [[link removed]]
