Friend,
COVID-19 has laid bare the urgent need to decarcerate our jails and prisons, decriminalize all drugs, and prioritize the health and safety of people who use drugs — and to ensure all reforms are systemic and permanent.
Criminalizing people who use drugs has always caused a public health crisis. And COVID-19 has magnified the problems that have always been present.
That’s why DPA is hosting a series of seven online discussions about COVID-19 and drug policy. This series brings together advocates and allies to explore how we can sustain progress, which obstacles still remain, and how we can use the current moment to be more aspirational with our policy agendas.
Please RVSP here to join us for the second conversation “Reconsidering Reentry: Exploring Decarceration in its Fullness Amid COVID-19” which will take place over Zoom this Wednesday, May 20 from 2-4pm ET.
This teleconference will bring together advocates and allies in the justice reform, harm reduction, and reentry services space to reflect on and discuss the priorities needed to help adequately protect the lives and prospects of returning citizens, their families, and the community during these unprecedented times. Register here to join the conversation this Wednesday.
And please mark your calendars and register for the rest of the series:
Reentry: May 20, 2-4pm ET
Treatment: June 11, 2-4pm ET
Health & Harm Reduction: June 25, 2-4pm ET
Informal & Gig Economies: July 9, 2-4pm ET
Safe Supply & Legal Regulation: July 23, 2-4pm ET
Drug War Policing & Surveillance: Aug 6, 2-4pm ET
I hope you will join these important conversations as we further explore how COVID-19 exacerbates the harms of the war on drugs.
