Dear john,

I hope that you and your loved ones enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. This time of year is bittersweet for me—my son Jordan was murdered on the day after Thanksgiving 12 years ago. But as I remember the pain of losing him, I also reflect on the progress we have made since I came to Congress in 2019 to serve Georgia's families. We’ve seen historic progress—the Bipartisan Safer Communities Law and formed the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Jordan's death is why I fight to ensure others may live. We can and we must continue to build on that progress in the new year.

As Congress returned to Washington this week, my colleagues and I are hard at work in preparation for the new Congress. I am very proud to announce that I have been elected to serve as Second Vice Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus in the 119th Congress. I look forward to continuing to grow our legacy and being a voice for those who need us most.
