Nottingham residents are invited to take part in the Big Christmas Jumper Swap and a special children’s storytelling session on December 7th at Nottingham Central Library.
Big Christmas Jumper Swap
Until 6 December you can donate clean, lightly used Christmas jumpers at Woodthorpe Plant Shop or at Homemade Café on the Arboretum, and then come along on 7 December from 10am at the Central Library to pick up another one!
If you haven't got a jumper of your own to swap you're still welcome down to pick up a jumper if they're available.
This initiative supports the circular economy by reusing festive jumpers, as 1 in 4 Christmas jumpers are only worn once.
Festive children's storytelling event
As part of the event, there will also be fun children’s Christmas storytelling and craft sessions at 10 am and 11 am.
Tickets are available via Eventbrite:

As winter approaches and the cold weather sets in it’s important to know what to do to keep yourself and vulnerable friends and family warm and well.
Here are the ways in which you can keep yourself and others safe during periods of cold weather:
- Check on family, friends and neighbours who may be at higher risk of becoming unwell, and if you are at higher risk, ask them to do the same for you
- Check the weather forecast and the news
- Make sure you have sufficient food and medicine
- Take simple measures to reduce draughts at home
- Heat rooms you spend most time in, to 18˚C if you can
- Keep bedroom windows closed
- If you have visitors, it can help stop the spread of germs to ventilate the room for a few minutes before and after they arrive.
- Wear multiple layers of thinner clothing
- If you’re eligible, get vaccinated against flu and COVID-19
- Get help if needed. Call NHS 111 or in an emergency 999
There are grants, benefits and sources of advice available to help you make your home more energy efficient, improve your heating or help manage energy bills. If you claim certain benefits or tax credits, you may be eligible for an extra payment from the government to help with the cost of living. Find out more about these here
With high winds and rain from Storm Darragh, Christmas shoppers, the Winter Wonderland, the drone show at Trent Bridge and a County game tomorrow (Saturday 7 December) at 3, the roads, car parks, and public transport network around the city is likely to be VERY busy tomorrow.
Leave extra time for your journey and avoid driving unless its essential - the more people who travel via public transport or active travel, the less congested the city will be.
Due to a Yellow Wind warning from the MET Office re Storm Darragh and high winds expected, both Wollaton Hall and Deer Park and Newstead Abbey are CLOSED on Saturday 7th December, with an anticipated delayed opening on Sunday 8th December.
We have notified visitors affected, and ask anyone visiting Sunday to delay their visit until after 1 pm and check our website, in case we need to update further, following site checks in the morning.
There’s a fantastic programme of events coming soon, with a huge range of live music, entertainment, and tasty food and drink. Tickets are on sale now (and they will also make the perfect Christmas gift!)

We’ve handed a contract to JCDecaux to look after our bus shelters and city-centre information panels for the next 15 years.
The agreement, which follows a competitive tender process, will provide the council with a share of advertising revenue, as well as seeing a number of shelters fitted with free public wi-fi and air-quality sensors.
All 800 shelters across the city will be totally refurbished over the next couple of years and rebranded in the city’s ‘Robin Hood Network’ livery. They will include energy-efficient LED lighting helping to work towards the city’s carbon-neutral goals.
