With the election behind us and newly elected leaders getting ready to be sworn into office, I want to thank our retiring leaders for their years of service in Maryland.
Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger has represented MD-02 for over two decades and has a career in public service that’s spanned 38 years. Throughout his career, he has strongly advocated for common sense policies that benefit Marylanders, addressing national security, climate change, the economy, and more.
Congressman John Sarbanes has represented MD-03 for nearly two decades, delivering progress for Marylanders on several key issues. He has been instrumental in defending our democracy and right to vote, protecting natural resources like the Chesapeake Bay, and providing student loan debt relief to public servants.
Congressman David Trone has represented MD-06 for six years. He has worked to support Marylanders in many ways, particularly through his work on addiction, forming the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force and the Bipartisan Second Chance Task Force.
Senator Ben Cardin is retiring from the United States Senate, where he has represented Maryland since 2007. Before that, he represented MD-03 in Congress and started his career in the Maryland House of Delegates, where his portrait still hangs today. Senator Cardin's decades of service have left a lasting impact on our state, from protecting our environment and natural resources to guaranteeing access to dental care for children.
As each of them finishes their terms, I hope you will join me in thanking them for their years of service to our state! I look forward to seeing what each of them does next and have no doubt they will continue to serve the public, just in a new way.
