Manhunt Underway for New York Assassin

New York police are frantically searching for the man who murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson early Wednesday and asking for the public’s help to catch the killer.

The shooter’s identity, location, and motive remain unknown, but clues required to solve the seemingly complex puzzle began trickling in shortly after the shooting. Authorities have searched hotels where their person of interest may have stayed, released images of his unmasked face, and sent a water bottle from which he drank to an examiner for testing.

Law enforcement also disclosed that the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose” were written on the ammunition used in the shooting, a likely reference to language insurance companies use to describe their strategies for denying coverage.

Why Didn’t Brian Thompson Have Personal Security?

Former Brian Thompson bodyguard Philip Klein expressed shock Wednesday that the slain CEO was unaccompanied by a protection detail at the time of his murder.

“It was normal operation for that company that they would have their own private security team to take care of their corporate executives,” Klein reportedly said while wondering why that standard protocol was not followed for Thompson.

Plenty of warning signs existed that Thompson’s life was in danger. His widow recently disclosed that he has been facing regular threats, and protestors brought a wooden casket to an April demonstration in front of UnitedHealthcare’s headquarters.

Canada Bans More Guns, Mulls Forced Donations to Ukraine

The Canadian government announced a ban on over 300 firearm varieties Thursday and is working on a planned buyback of guns it no longer permits.

What will it do with its newly confiscated weapons? Send them to Ukraine.

According to the Canadian defense minister, officials have already approached the Zelensky government about facilitating the hand-off. “Every bit of assistance we can offer to the Ukrainians is one step toward their victory,” he said.

It is also one step closer to a global war.

Tempers Flare as Congressional Hearing Devolves into Shouting Match

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe and Congressman Pat Fallon got into a heated Capitol Hill screaming fest Thursday, berating each other to the point where a physical altercation seemed comfortably on the table.

The outburst occurred during a hearing on this year’s Trump assassination attempts. Fallon accused Rowe of dereliction of duty when he guarded the then-candidate during Manhattan’s annual 9/11 ceremony, and the insinuation that he had used the September 11th remembrance for personal gain brought Rowe tremendous rage.

They quickly started shouting at one another, highlighted by Fallon, veins popping and arm tattoos exposed, rising to his feet and emphatically pointing at his opponent from his elevated hearing room throne.

In 1798, Representatives Roger Griswold and Matthew Lyon traded blows on the House floor with a hickory walking stick and a pair of metal tongs over a longstanding corruption dispute. They would surely be disappointed to learn that yesterday’s conflict remained strictly verbal.

Another Trump Assassination Attempt? Ex-Secret Service Officer “Certainly Can See” it Happening

Former Secret Service agent Richard Staropoli warned Thursday that Donald Trump could soon face another attack that his protective detail is unprepared to prevent.

“I’m not highly confident at all. The Secret Service that you see out there today is not the Secret Service of yesteryear. Somewhere along the line, they’ve completely dropped the ball,” Staropoli said during a TV appearance. “As a matter of fact, I don’t think I’d be alone in saying that I certainly can see something happening between now and inauguration day.”

The Secret Service has been under rhetorical fire for months after letting Donald Trump become under literal fire in July. Staropoli also referred to the agency as a “politically compromised agency.”

Democrat Senator Calls for Trump Pardon

John Fetterman called for a Trump pardon Thursday, arguing that such an action would be fair after Joe Biden justified pardoning his son by declaring him a victim of political persecution.

“I think that it’s undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden was really politically motivated but I also think it’s true that the trial in New York for Trump was political as well,” Fetterman told the hosts of The View, who wouldn’t know objectivity if it smacked them across the face. “In both cases, I think a pardon is appropriate… we cannot allow these types of institutions to be weaponized against our political opponents.”

Fetterman is spot on in saying the Biden DOJ brought charges against the president-elect as a spiteful act of political vengeance. Regardless of whether Trump actually committed any wrongdoings, the fact that no other former president has ever been indicted for a crime proves that law enforcement has always granted America’s political elite preferential treatment under the law. Trust us: plenty of them are actual criminals.

It’s impossible to justify prosecuting Trump, but letting the others off scot-free.

Town Officials Walk Back, Apologize for American Flag Ban

A New Jersey town council is under fire after removing a resident for carrying an American flag.

During a recent meeting, the man spoke out against a rule banning “props” like Old Glory, while defiantly waving his small flag before police removed him from the room. The incident sparked immense backlash, eventually leading to the town denouncing the authoritarian rule.

“Let me be very clear,” Council President Nishith Patel reportedly said this week. “The Edison Council has never, nor will we ever ban the American flag from our public meetings… It was never, ever, the intent of this council to ban the American flag.”

Patel is the one who ordered the flag-waving resident’s removal.

“Muhammad” Becomes England’s Top Baby Name

New data shows “Muhammad” has overtaken “Noah” as England’s top baby name.

According to the British Office for National Statistics, parents named more than 4,600 newborns “Muhammad” in England and Wales in 2023, over 100 more than the second-place finisher. “Mohammed” and “Mohammad,” other spellings of the same name, also finished in the top 100.

Girls’ names were more diverse. The top female choice, Olivia, was less common than the top six male names.

Parents appropriately chose “royal” names less frequently than in years past, demonstrated by decreases in new Georges, Archies, Harrys, Charlottes, Elizabeths, and Charleses. This should be celebrated. The British “royal family” is entirely illegitimate. Nobody elected them, and yet they spend their lives living in palaces, not working, and being waited upon by people who actually have to earn a living. They have done nothing to warrant children being named in their honor.

Actress Dies After Eating Frog

33-year-old actress Marcela Rodriguez died early this week after eating a giant monkey frog and ingesting a poisonous substance the amphibian produced. The tragedy occurred during a spiritual cleansing ritual during Rodriguez’s Mexico retreat.

The frog’s poison, called kambo, is a traditional medicine used by South American indigenous tribes. Locals who capture the frogs harvest it by binding them near a fire, causing them to become stressed and secrete kambo from their skin.

The substance’s proponents claim it can cure everything from anxiety to migraines but also carries major risks, including hospitalization and, in some cases, death.

Tragically, this was one of those cases.

Commentary

The Russia hoax did more damage than most people realize.

It wasn’t just a wasteful political hit job, a Deep State coup attempt, or an extreme case of government-mandated disinformation. It was the spark that lit the fire that ignited the most asinine foreign policy initiative in American history.

On a tangible level, not much remains from its yearslong “collusion” probe. The investigation is disbanded, its premise is discredited, and Robert Mueller descended back into Washington’s shadows shortly after submitting his Trump-exonerating report. But the whole world is still feeling its cultural fallout.

For some inexplicable reason, the hoax created a middle school cafeteria-like social landscape where having an open mind about Russia, a country with which America’s leaders should strive to have a good relationship, became taboo. People who admire, visit, communicate with, or even express undesirable opinions about the Motherland bizarrely found themselves labeled as sinister Putin stooges with questionable allegiances to America. It was a weird spinoff of McCarthyism, and it’s still going on today.

It’s even reached the White House. Despite proactively entangling itself in a war inside Russia’s borders, the Biden administration is making no communication with the Kremlin. No meetings, no phone calls, not even a Cold War-esque backchannel. Total radio silence.

How is this helpful? Could blackballing the world’s most prolific nuclear power while simultaneously launching missiles into its territory possibly have a good outcome? Could it help initiate peace? Of course not. It could only increase tension and toxicity, needlessly driving both powers toward an all-out brawl over a completely disproportionate issue. And that’s precisely what’s happened.

America must reverse course. Engage with the Russians. Further isolating them will only drive their leaders closer to the West’s real enemies, while developing a cordial relationship would make both parties safer, more prosperous, and substantially less juvenile.

Donald Trump has an opportunity to do this. For the sake of the world, hopefully he will.
