Dear Friend,

As you know, I ran for my seat as a proud outsider, not someone who has worked their way up through the twisted apparatus of the Bronx political machine. I loved being an insurgent - and have continued to hold myself in that stance - because it means I am not beholden to anyone other than you, the voters.

You can probably imagine that as much as I enjoy not owing the machine anything, they don’t like the arrangement as much. Despite helping pass a landslide of much-needed legislation in my first term, and delivering more than double the funding that my predecessor brought back to the district, the fact that I am impossible to control gives the old school political machines a real headache.

So - now I have a primary challenger - a Republican who recently switched parties to become a Democrat just to run against me. It’s the political games of 2018, all over again.

I need your support, to make sure that I can stand up to this machine move and continue to represent you and your best interests.

Even though this pandemic will keep me from knocking on doors and hosting in-person campaign rallies, I’ve continued to work around the clock to make sure that our district, District 34, is getting what it needs as we face this crisis together.
