My Annual Funding Fair

I’ve held a funding fair every year since 2016, and every time I get so inspired by all the amazing community work that’s going on across Aberafan Maesteg.

This year over 150 people from around 100 different community organisations attended, which I think is a record!

Huge thanks also to the 20 funders who engaged with their customary energy, positivity and expertise

Community Support Hub

It was great to visit the Community Support Hub, right in the heart of our Aberafan Shopping Centre.

The hub is there to advise steelworkers, and is yet another example of the support that Community union provides.

BSPS Meeting with Steelworkers

I hosted a meeting for steelworkers affected by the BSPS pension scandal, to enable them to convey their issues to Rachel Kent, the Financial Regulator’s Complaints Commissioner (FRCC).

It was a powerful and at times moving discussion, and in her closing remarks the FRCC confirmed the importance of hearing directly about the financial and human impact of what has taken place.

High Value Manufacturing Catapult

I was delighted to recently pay a visit to the brand new High Value Manufacturing Catapult here in Port Talbot.

The state of the art Baglan centre offers businesses in Wales a chance to be connected with specialist engineers within the network.

This centre in Baglan offers innovative ways to improve productivity in particular, with a mixture of technologies such as VR, 3D printing and others to help businesses better plan and set up their processes.

Richard Burton 10K

Brilliant atmosphere as always at the Richard Burton 10K this year. I was delighted (and somewhat amazed!) to have kept my time under the hour mark.

Well done to all those who took part and congratulations to Shaun and Anna Tobin for organising a wonderful event yet again.

WEPA Paper Mill

Great to visit the WEPA paper mill in Llangynwyd. It was really interesting to have tour of their state of the art facility, and to hear about the investment and innovation that they’re bringing to the paper industry.

There are 340 people employed at this family-owned business, and it was good to learn about their apprenticeships scheme, skills development programme and also to get briefed on the vital work they’re doing on sustainability, recycling and transition to cleaner energy.

Remembrance Events

I was honoured to attend several Remembrance events in the constituency for Remembrance Sunday, laying a wreath at both the Maesteg service and the Briton Ferry service to pay tribute to all those who served and protected our country, our freedom, and our democracy.

We must never forget their courage and sacrifice.

We will remember them.

Alzheimer's Society Event

It was great to speak at Alzheimer's Society's event where I reflected on the impact of dementia on those who live with it, and their loved ones, including in my own family.

I spoke about how high quality care helps those with dementia live active & independent lives for longer.

I know many constituents are impacted by dementia and the care of those with dementia and many had emailed me asking me to attend this event.
