John,
The coalition Government is looking to reinstate the cruel practice of live animal exports by sea.
New Zealanders were rightly shocked by the appalling conditions animals endured in live export practices, which put our international reputation regarding animal welfare at risk. That’s why Labour banned live cattle exports by sea in April 2023, and other countries including the UK and Australia followed suit soon after.
The majority of New Zealanders want the ban to remain in place. More than 57,000 people signed a petition to protect the ban, and a recent survey showed 78 percent of farmers want the ban to remain in place. Meanwhile, 88 percent of respondents said they do not trust the live export industry.

Now, the Government is attempting to ignore these voices.
Click the button above to send an email to Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Minister of Agriculture Todd McClay, and Associate Minister of Agriculture (Animal Welfare) Andrew Hoggard demanding they rule out live exports by sea immediately.
Allowing live exports once again will only take New Zealand backwards, and if this coalition Government does so, Labour will ban live exports once more when re-elected.
Thank you for your support.
