Other contract news
Statewide contracts remain in place during spending freeze
Gov. Inslee issued a directive on Dec. 2 for a statewide freeze on most nonessential service contracts, purchasing, hiring, and travel due to a projected budget shortfall. contracts will remain available for agencies to use for their essential and mission-critical goods and services.
Exemptions to the Governor’s directive include:
- Essential purchases necessary to support public safety, health and welfare activities, and other critical government functions.
- Service contracts and purchases less than $10,000, as well as travel required to protect life or ensure public safety.
Statewide contracts leverage the state’s collective buying power to help agencies, federal and local governments, higher education, Tribal governments, and certain nonprofits save money, reduce risk, and streamline purchasing to focus on their core missions.
DES remains committed to providing resources and guidance to state agencies navigating these restrictions while ensuring continued access to necessary statewide contracts.
