Dear John,

Our fight to ensure EPA uses the best available science – and not toss aside studies that don’t fit the administration’s political goals – in crafting public health policy is far from over. EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler is continuing the effort Scott Pruitt started to censor the scientific studies EPA scientists can use to develop standards that protect our air, water, land and public health!

This proposed rule could put peer-reviewed studies by institutions like the American Cancer Society and the Harvard School of Public Health off-limits if access to underlying data is not made publicly available – as is the case with many health studies where identifying medical information is kept private, or older studies that don’t fit the new, arbitrary standards.

TAKE ACTION NOW
It wouldn’t ban use of the studies. This is worse. This would let political appointees pick which studies to use and which ones to ignore, based on whether the results contradict what the administration wants to do. It would create an EPA that can throw away facts it doesn’t want to hear.

EPA claims this rule is needed for “transparency,” but its goals are harmful and contrary to accepted standards of scientific research. EPA cannot effectively do its job to protect public health if it does not consider the complete range of peer-reviewed scientific studies and the health effects of pollution. EPA has relied on these studies to issue essential standards to improve the quality of the air we breathe and the water we drink.

Please tell the EPA to withdraw this dangerous Supplemental Censored Science Proposal.

Thank you for your engagement and support.
