NAACP drops 2020 election lawsuit against Trump

  • The NAACP and Michigan voters voluntarily ended their lawsuit today alleging that President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee illegally intimidated Black voters in the state in 2020. The case was dismissed without prejudice so the claims could be refiled in the future.

California Democratic officials to appeal challenge to local voter ID law

  • California Secretary of State Shirley Weber (D) and Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) said they will appeal the dismissal of their lawsuit challenging Huntington Beach's local voter ID law. They claimed the law violates the state constitution and would disenfranchise voters.


  • Back in March, Huntington Beach voters approved a local initiative requiring voters to show ID when voting in municipal elections. The initiative is set to go into effect in 2026.

New York court hearing coming up tomorrow

  • A hearing will be held in a lawsuit challenging the legislative map of Nassau County, New York. County officials and voters argued that local districts violated the New York Voting Rights Act (NYVRA) by decreasing the voting power of minority residents. The trial is set to begin on Dec. 17.


  • Last month, an Orange County, New York judge struck down the NYVRA, declaring it unconstitutional. That decision was appealed to a higher court, which will hear the case Dec. 18.
