John,
The life of tigers exploited for profit is no life at all for these majestic creatures. Cubs are taken from their distressed mothers moments after they’re born, and are worked to exhaustion and often physically abused so they can be passed around for tourist photo opportunities. Meanwhile, adult tigers live out their days in cages — most of which are completely inadequate for their needs.
Many captive tigers will never see the sky, feel the grass, or enjoy any behaviors that come naturally to them. Tigers and other big cats urgently need you to speak out for them today. Please add your name to our petition urging Congress to pass the Big Cat Public Safety Act, which would crack down on cruelty by prohibiting the private possession of big cats like tigers and lions.
The Big Cat Public Safety Act would also ban exhibitors like roadside zoos from allowing opportunities to interact with cubs — a key source of profit for these entities. Sadly, once these captive-born cubs are just 12 weeks old, they are already too big for this purpose. Some are then illegally killed, while others are sold into the wild “pet” trade — where they may wind up in a roadside zoo, or even in a cage in someone’s backyard or basement.
This exploitation and abuse of big cats is possible because there is no federal law to protect them. With your help, we can change that by passing the Big Cat Public Safety Act. |

If you sign our petition today, you’ll join more than 25 celebrities including, Iggy Pop, Joaquin Phoenix, Glenn Close, and Angelica Houston, who are calling on Congress to pass the Big Cat Public Safety Act.

Tigers and other big cats have complex physical and psychological needs. Depriving them of any opportunity to engage in their natural behaviors is cruel. Keeping big cats in private homes or rundown roadside zoos also creates a huge public safety threat. Big cats belong in the wild or, if returning them to the wild is not possible, accredited sanctuaries equipped to meet their needs.
It’s time to end the private ownership and exploitation of these magnificent animals for good! Please help big cats by urging Congress to pass the Big Cat Public Safety Act today. There’s strength in numbers, and the more people we have standing with us, the greater our chance of success in protecting big cats across the country. I know I can count on you. Thank you! |
For the animals,
