Dear Friend,
A few years ago, our office started getting calls about a company called “Wyatt’s Towing.” You may have seen their signs—or worse, had your car towed by them. Time and again, we’ve heard how they regularly deceived and mistreated consumers, towing cars illegally and charging outrageous fees.
But what offended me the most was this: When consumers who knew their rights pushed back, demanding to be treated fairly, Wyatt’s often refunded their money. Other consumers, often ones who were more vulnerable, were preyed on because they didn’t know how to or have the time to complain to Wyatt’s. As a result, they paid steep fees to get their cars back. Until we got involved.
When we were on the brink of a lawsuit, Wyatt’s agreed to change how they operated in key ways and refund $1 million to consumers they wronged. As a result of our work, 5,000 Coloradans will automatically receive restitution checks in the mail.

But we didn’t stop there. Our work identified loopholes in Colorado’s towing laws that were exploited by Wyatt’s. Working with legislators, we changed the law to better protect consumers from unfair practices in the future. And as was recently reported by Colorado Public Radio [[link removed]] , Wyatt’s towing yard is now permanently closed.
While most companies behave ethically and treat customers the right way, there are some bad actors who don’t. And they must be held accountable. That’s how we create a fairer marketplace—not only for customers, but also for the businesses that play by the rules.
If you or someone you know has been harmed by a company that engages in deceptive or predatory tactics, please let us know at StopFraudColorado.gov. In the case of Wyatt’s, those who reached out to our office helped us make a difference for Colorado. If you want to learn more about this case, visit [link removed] [[link removed]]
Thank you for standing with me in the fight to protect consumers.
Phil
