A UK luxury yacht firm first exposed by EIA in 2018 has been handed stiff penalties for using ‘blood’ teak from Myanmar on some of its vessels. A crown court judge imposed fines and costs totalling £358,759.64 on Sunseeker International for 11 specific imports. EIA Forests Campaign Leader Faith Doherty said: “These sentences send a clear and unequivocal message to other luxury yacht manufacturers that using blood teak from conflict-torn Myanmar is totally unacceptable and will cost them dearly.”
