Dear friends,
I am writing to you today to thank you for supporting Reporters Without Borders, but also to share my story as an Afghan journalist and tell you how much RSF has helped me.
I have been working as a journalist since 2011 for several Afghan media outlets, in particular for Enikass TV, one of the media outlets most targeted by the Taliban. As a result, I have been the victim of direct threats on several occasions. In particular, I received a threatening letter from an extremist group and learned that the Taliban military commission for eastern Afghanistan had ordered my assassination. I had only done my job as a journalist, but the Taliban considered that my reports promoted Western culture and shared ideas that were opposed to them.
I left my home province and moved to Kabul, but more threatening letters arrived. From then on, I knew I had no choice but to leave my country. I first went to Pakistan, where I was able to apply for a visa for France, which, thanks to the support of RSF, was accepted. Since the beginning of 2024, I have been living in France. I applied for asylum, which RSF also supported. They also provided me with material assistance to help me settle in France.
As you can see, the support of Reporters Without Borders was crucial at a time when my life was under threat simply for carrying out my profession. Without you, without your donations, this would not have been possible! Every day, the Reporters Without Borders teams come to the aid of my colleagues who, like me last year, are in danger of paying with their lives for their mission to provide information. That's why I'm asking you, if you can, to make a donation to Reporters Without Borders right now.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity.
