Click here Dear John, Across the world, communities are struggling with the impact of environmental imbalances - from droughts to floods to pollution. ‘Planetary health’ is a perspective and approach that emphasises the links between human society, the global environment and health. As Health Poverty Action (HPA) celebrates its fortieth birthday, we're keen to explore the many ways these global environmental issues impact people's lives. Our Planetary Health Appeal showcases our vital work in related areas. Much of our work with communities addresses the immediate challenges posed by issues like climate change and the overexploitation of natural resources. This might mean sharing climate resilient farming techniques with mothers in Guatemala or establishing affordable community solar power systems in rural Cambodia. We also collaborate with these communities to safeguard people’s lives and livelihoods during emergencies, whether helping health workers reach flooded communities in Kenya or ensuring that internally displaced people in Somaliland can access key services and supplies during extended droughts. Crucially, we are working with partners globally to advocate for policies and practices that prioritise the health and wellbeing of people and the wider natural world. This might mean exposing how the ‘war on drugs’ contributes to climate change or how industrial overexploitation devastates ecosystems. Your donations enable us to commit to addressing long-term issues like planetary health. Please give whatever you can today so we can continue collaborating with communities, activists and health workers globally. Warm regards, Siaffa Bunduka, Supporter Engagement Manager |
