- This is how we build power! The more we stand together as a union, the more our elected officials will have to listen to us as we push back against manufactured austerity.

Being a volunteer leader is a big investment. It’s worth it to me because when we fight together, we win against corporate boondoggles that serve the wealthy rather than everyday riders like you and me. For instance, in 2022, we defeated the Mon-Oakland Connector, a project that would have plowed our tax dollars into a shuttle service between Carnegie Mellon and Hazelwood Green that served a few hundred private tech workers while displacing thousands of working people through gentrification. We did our own audit that uncovered the lies behind this plan and demonstrated that extending the 75 bus service would serve the public better while being sustainable, affordable, publicly-run, and fully accessible.

In 2025, we’re going to push PRT even harder with our Visionary Transit Service campaign. For decades, transit riders have called on elected leaders to provide accessible, expansive transit that meets our community’s economic, environmental and public health needs. Instead, they’ve cut routes and services, driving down ridership while claiming scarcity. Well, we’re done with PRT telling us what’s possible. It’s time to fund a community vision of what transit can and should be. Join us in this fight.

This coming Tuesday, 12/10 @ 2pm, The City of Pittsburgh Planning Commission is deciding whether to forward a suite of critical affordable housing policies for a final vote at PGH City Council. But there is a well-organized group of powerful organizations that want to make sure City Council doesn't have the final say. |
