Friend,

In case you missed it, we wanted to give you a quick update on what is happening in Congress around funding support for community based gun violence, and remind you about our monthly policy call tomorrow. See below!

Federal Support Update: The Community Justice Action Fund, Amnesty International, and partners have been working with Senator Tammy Duckworth's office to launch a letter campaign to secure $250 million in emergency funding to directly support gun violence prevention and intervention methods through the Byrne-Justice Assistance Grant Program and a newly created Community-Based Violence Intervention Fund. This letter is now co-signed by nine other Senators including Senator Booker, Senator Casey, Senator Menendez, Senator Hirono, Senator Klobuchar, Senator Durbin, Senator Markey, Senator Blumenthal and Senator Harris.

Monthly Policy Call: We also know that there have been numerous recent activations and media coverage of community shootings, police violence, and gun violence against black women and girls. On our next Monthly Policy Call which will happen tomorrow, May 19th at 4pm EST, will speak about efforts and ways to plug into work happening on the ground around these horrific and unjust acts of violence. We will also have featured speakers including an advocate for black women and girls, Kayla Hicks, Maryland Delegate Member Nicole A. Williams, and Dr. Roger Mitchell from the DC Medical Examiner's Office.

We will also cover the following agenda items:
