Dear WIIS Colleagues,

As 2024 draws to a close, we have been reflecting on the progress made this year and the critical work that lies ahead in 2025.

Since November 25th, WIIS Global and our Global Affiliates have been commemorating the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign. At WIIS, we believe in the power of gender-inclusive leadership to create safer societies. Together, we can amplify our voices and break the silence.

We are eager to continue the fight for global gender equality and women’s leadership with you in the coming year. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to WIIS and our mission.

Revamp Your Resume | WIIS Global

Date: November 19, 2024Summary: WIIS Global hosted a members-only resume workshop with the GW Elliott School Assistant Director of Career and Graduate Academics Advising, Meg Wurm. During this event, Meg explored tips and tricks for those in the international security space working on crafting the perfect resume that stands out to employers.

Discussion with Climate Security Expert Grazia Pacillo | WIIS Italy

Date: November 19, 2024Summary: WIIS Italy hosted a discussion with UNU-CPR Senior Fellow and climate security expert Grazia Pacillo, who spoke about her work on climate security and the nexus of climate change and peace and security.

Negotiation Training for Young Women Professionals from the Baltics

Date: November 23, 2024Summary: Women for Security (WIIS Latvia) organized a negotiation training for young women professionals from the Baltic states. The program offered the opportunity to strengthen participants' negotiation skills and help them develop the confidence needed to lead in their personal and professional lives.

Leadership & Mentoring Program | Women for Security (WIIS Latvia)

Summary: Women for Security (WIIS Latvia) organized a leadership and mentoring program in which 13 young women professionals from different backgrounds and careers participated. The program included practical lessons and lectures taught by female leaders, including diplomatic protocol, self-defense, leadership, a visit to a military base, and more. In addition to lectures, each participant was assigned a mentor with whom they met, creating an opportunity for inspiration and networking.

Winner of the Sylke Tempel Essay Prize 2024 Announced | WIIS Germany

Together with the magazine Internationale Politik, WIIS Germany has announced the winner of this year's essay prize in honor of Sylke Tempel. Of numerous high-quality submissions, Nora Kürzdörfer’s outstanding essay, 'Dystopian Visions for a Utopian Future,' was selected as the winner.

Recipient of the Premio Camilla of the City of Priverno | WIIS Italy

WIIS Italy Vice President and Head of Programme on European Union and Institutional Relations Manager at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), Nicoletta Pirozzi, received the Premio Camilla for her work in politics and institutions. The Premio Camilla celebrates and recognizes the importance of women's various public roles, from culture and sport to journalism and politics.

Peace Prints, WISCOMP’s (WIIS India) South Asian Journal | Being "(Re) Armed”: Women and the Security Sector

Summary: This anniversary volume of WISCOMP’s (WIIS India) Peace Prints focuses on the induction of women soldiers and the gender system that sustains the military. This volume highlights the social transformation within the Indian armed forces, the military as a sociological institution, and the material reality of the expansive participation and advancement of women. The volume continues meaningful conversation among scholars, policymakers, and feminists.

16 Days of Activism

WIIS Global and our global affiliates are commemorating the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign which began on November 25th and ends on December 10th.

Today and every day, we stand in solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence.

At WIIS, we believe in the power of gender-inclusive leadership to create safer societies. Together, we can amplify our voices and break the silence.
