HERE’S WHERE WE STAND: We’re deeply grateful to the 70 generous readers who helped us raise $5,059 on Giving Tuesday; their support means so much to us! But we need reader support each day of the year to make this reporting possible, and we still need to raise $30,000 before Dec. 31 to reach our financial goals. Can you make a doubled one-time gift or a new recurring gift that will be matched x12 today? ([link removed])
After 18 months without a health director, Allegheny County tapped Dr. Iulia Vann this summer to serve in Sara Innamorato's administration. Only a few months into her tenure, Vann sat down with PublicSource's Venuri Siriwardane and WESA's Kiley Koscinski to talk about growing up in Romania and moving to the U.S. for school. Before coming to Pittsburgh, Vann led the health department in Guilford County, North Carolina, assuming the position days before the pandemic hit in 2020. Now, as the head of Allegheny County's health department, Vann is tasked with addressing issues like air quality and Black infant mortality ([link removed]) .

Also, County Council passed Innamorato's revised 2025 budget ([link removed]) , which includes a property tax increase of 1.7 mills, or $1.70 per $1,000 in assessed value. That is less than Innamorato's initial proposal, which raised spending further with a 2.2 mill tax increase.
