Michigan bans firearms at polling locations
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) signed two new laws prohibiting the possession of firearms at polling places and within 100 feet of absentee ballot boards while votes are being counted.
Other states, including New Mexico and Vermont, passed similar laws this year to curb voter intimidation and threats of violence to election workers.
Trump reportedly considers DeSantis for cabinet
President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering nominating Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) to be his defense secretary instead of Pete Hegseth, who has been embroiled in scandal. If selected, DeSantis would be another pick for Trump’s administration that repeatedly undermined voting rights and democracy.
Last month, Trump announced he would nominate Pam Bondi, an election denier, for attorney general and Stephen Miller, the head of a right-wing legal group, as the White House deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security advisor.

Lawsuits challenging election results filed in Florida and Kentucky
Florida GOP candidate Robert Rochford filed a lawsuit last week challenging the results of the 2024 election for the state’s 14th congressional district, which he lost by over 57,000 votes. He claimed that there were unusually large numbers of mail-in ballot requests in two counties.
Doug Bine, who failed to win a seat on the Union City Commission in Kentucky, sued local officials today, challenging the city’s 2024 election results. In the lawsuit, he referenced issues in three precincts with the distribution of ballots.
