As acting President, Joe Biden just pardoned his son Hunter Biden. This is the work of nepotism, favoritism, hypocrisy, and corruption.
President Biden is willing to save his son, but now he needs to use that same power to save the millions of people sitting in federal prison and those facing the death penalty right now.
When news broke about Hunter Biden’s pardon, we were the first out of the gate with a radical demand: that Joe Biden extend the same mercy to the people trapped in prison for non-violent offenses.
We made an unfortunate but true comparison: at this point in his presidency, Joe Biden has granted fewer pardons and commutations than Donald Trump—that’s seriously concerning.
We knew this would be controversial, and it was. We got a lot of heat for speaking out. But now, just two days later, our critique is gaining traction.
More than 60 members of Congress have demanded that Biden grant clemency to the inordinate number of incarcerated people serving unjust sentences or sitting on federal death row before he leaves office.

Many fought back against their abusers or were wrongfully convicted. Many more are there for marijuana or other drug charges. They are disproportionately Black. Many are revolutionary Black political prisoners.
The son of a president gets a pardon, while Black mothers continue to lose their sons to prison for minor infractions or for simply existing in a racist society.
