*Gov. Whitmer, Lt. Gov. Gilchrist on Sen. Stabenow’s Farewell Address*

*LANSING, Mich.—*Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist released the following statements after Senator Debbie Stabenow delivered her farewell address in the U.S. Senate.

“Senator Stabenow always put the people of Michigan first.

“Over her decades of service to our state, she got so much done. She fought for union workers and family farmers. She tackled pollution in our water and increased access to mental health services. Her impact will be felt for decades to come as we continue moving Michigan forward.

“Along the way, she blazed trails too. As the first woman elected to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate, she was a role model for so many leaders, including me. In Washington, she always led by working across the aisle, especially as chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, where she delivered strong, bipartisan farm bills.

“As a Michigander, I am so grateful to have called Debbie Stabenow my senator, and as a person, I’ve been lucky to call her a friend. She truly is a one of a kind. I look forward to working with her through her very last day in the Senate.”

*Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist*

“Senator Debbie Stabenow showed the world that Michigan is the best place to make things and grow things. Over her decades-long career in public service, Senator Stabenow fought for Michigan and made it possible for everyone to succeed and be their best selves.

"On so many issues that matter to Michigan families, like the health of our natural resources and Great Lakes, agriculture, and economic opportunity, she has built a legacy that will last for generations and inspire countless young people to follow in her footsteps. I am especially proud to have worked with her during the last several years to expand access to affordable mental health services across Michigan.

"I know every Michigander will join us in thanking her for her decades of trailblazing service.”
