John, we’ll be frank.

Donald Trump and Republicans are trying to appoint unqualified and unprincipled individuals to lead our country.

• RFK Jr. is a known anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist, and is Trump's pick for HHS Director.
• Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s pick for National Intelligence Director, has repeatedly been a proponent of Vladimir Putin’s dictatorial regime.
• Pete Hegseth, the pick for Defense Secretary, has been accused of sexual misconduct multiple times.
• Kash Patel, the potential Director of the FBI, has made a name for himself by stoking conspiracy theories and ranting about the ‘deep state.’

But the good news is that we continue to have a voice in our government - whether they like it or not. Dedicated Democrats like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are determined to fight back and speak up for the American people.

Checks and balances will be integral in stopping our Democracy from falling prey to Donald Trump and his lawless way of governing. From confirmation hearings to FBI background checks, we can’t let Trump skip critical steps in protecting our people and our way of life.

These will be the leaders who manage food safety, public safety and national security. We must be able to trust them to protect us - every day. The nomination and confirmation process is just the beginning of the work– it’s up to us to hold Trump accountable.
