The DEFIANCE Act creates the right to civil action for victims of AI-generated image-based sexual abuse, like nonconsensual deepfakes.¹ It empowers the hundreds of thousands of adults and children facing this dehumanizing practice to seek justice, keeps online speech safe from censorship with its specificity, and models what good AI legislation actually looks like.

We’ve endorsed this bill, along with more than 40 other organizations, and we’re now in a critical moment. The DEFIANCE Act passed unanimously in the Senate this summer, and it has a real chance of passing and being signed into law if the House takes action before it goes on a break (in just two weeks!)

If the House doesn't act, we’ll be facing an uphill battle all the way back up the legislative pipeline under the Trump administration.
