Friend,
Every month, nearly five million Californians living at or below the poverty line depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to put food on the table.(1)
But SNAP runs out of funding at the end of the year, and if House Republicans get their way, the program will lose $30 billion dollars.(2)
Congress must pass a Farm Bill by December 31 that not only assists agricultural and rural communities, but funds SNAP as well. The Republican House version of the Farm Bill is untenable, slashing the SNAP budget by $30 billion over the next decade and removing the USDA’s authority to determine what a healthy diet costs.(3)
Even worse, if Congress doesn’t pass a good bill by December 31, the program will fall into the hands of Donald Trump and Elon “cut everything” Musk.
The Senate’s Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act will protect SNAP benefits and rural families. Let your members of Congress know that you want them to pass this bill now!
Currently, a person qualifying for SNAP benefits receives an average of $6.16 per day to buy food.(4)
That $6 a day can mean the difference between not eating and having a nutritious, fresh meal.
But the House of Representatives wants to take those benefits away from 40 million people nationwide, including 17 million children.(5)
And if SNAP falls into the hands of Elon Musk’s so-called efficiency committee, he wants to cut the program entirely.(6)
The Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act would strengthen the SNAP program and ensure it’s funded for years to come. We need to demand that Congress pass this bill now!
Tell your representatives: Pass the Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act now!
Thank you for being with us.
