Friends, Washington is losing 14 farms a week. Our local farms are disappearing at a historic rate. But farmers alone do not have the clout in Olympia to change the policies hurting their chances for success. Our local farms need your help to stand up against the unfair tax on farm equipment that puts our farms at risk. Every year, Washington loses 743 farms. This tragic trend threatens our agricultural heritage and the very fabric of rural Washington. One of the more egregious reasons our farms are struggling is the state’s unfair tax policy. Washington is one of only two states in the union that taxes farm equipment the same way it taxes vehicles. This burdens our farmers with tens of thousands of dollars in extra costs when they buy their tractors, combines, and other vital equipment. This is a non-partisan cause. When it comes to preserving our Washington growers, their locally sourced food and their stewardship of their land, it is a cause that should unite us all.
