In any crisis, our concern extends to all those affected. But at UNFPA, we have a particular focus on the safety and wellbeing of women and girls — who are among the most vulnerable during times of crisis and whose needs are too often overlooked.
We have been on the frontlines across the globe, delivering lifesaving sexual and reproductive health care to those who need it most:
In Afghanistan, where we’ve deployed midwives to ensure safe births after the Taliban seized control and hospitals were forced to close or rendered non-functional.
In Sudan, where we’re delivering violence prevention and response services amid the world’s largest displacement crisis, which has heightened the risks for women and girls.
In Ukraine, where we’ve been helping women give birth safely ever since war broke out more than two years ago.
But all of this lifesaving work, and more, is at stake right now. If the U.S. government proceeds with defunding UNFPA’s budget — like it did during President Trump’s first term — women in some of the world’s most devastating crises will lose access to lifesaving services.
We are hopeful the Trump Administration will make a different decision this time and not defund women and girls. But in this moment of uncertainty, support from individual donors like you has never meant more. Before Giving Tuesday is over, will you make a gift of any amount to deliver uninterrupted lifesaving care to women and girls around the world? Generous donors are 2X-matching your gifts up to $200,000, meaning your gift will have double the impact.
Thank you for being there.
Sincerely,
Anu Surendran
