Friend,
The Fourth of July is a day to come together and celebrate our independence and our nation. It’s a day that millions of Americans spend with friends and families, at cook-outs and watching fireworks. Here’s one thing it’s definitely NOT about: Donald Trump.
So of course, what did Donald Trump do? He tried to make Independence Day all about him, taking over the celebration in Washington, DC for an expensive party complete with tanks and other military hardware and VIP tickets doled out to Republican donors. It’s hard to imagine anything that’s further from the spirit of the holiday than that.
Congress will find out exactly how much Trump’s fanfare cost -- but you can be sure its a big price tag.
It’s one thing to celebrate with fireworks and concerts — a great tradition — but this martial display was an expensive and irresponsible use of resources, especially when this administration claims our government can’t even afford to give toothbrushes to children in migrant detention centers. It was essentially a massive pro-Trump campaign rally that took over a previously nonpartisan celebration -- and that’s not okay.
If you are concerned by Trump’s behavior and Republican propaganda on the taxpayer’s dime, pitch in $5 or whatever you can to help me hold this reckless president accountable to the people.
Thanks for all you do,
Adam
