ACLU Supporter, the ACLU has been at the forefront of the fight to protect our most fundamental civil fights for more than 100 years:

When Tennessee banned teaching evolution back in 1925, we fought back – and we defeated this ban and 22 more in other states.

We joined the NAACP in 1954 in Brown v. Board of Education – and we ended school segregation and ensured equal access to education for all.

In 1971, we brought the very first case seeking marriage for same-sex couples, laying the groundwork for the 2015 Supreme Court victory that enshrined marriage equality.

Just two years later in 1973, the ACLU's General Counsel represented the plaintiffs in the groundbreaking case, Roe v. Wade, where the Supreme Court ruled that a woman had a constitutional right to end a pregnancy.

And now in 2024, we're going to the Supreme Court tomorrow to argue against a Tennessee law that prohibits gender-affirming medical treatments for transgender minors.

For more than 100 years and through 19 different presidents, the ACLU has been the organization fighting to protect civil rights.
