** A Note From CPC's President
------------------------------------------------------------

John,

Our Thanksgiving was a bittersweet reminder — lovely and a little painful — about why I fight for California.

Unable to build the lives of their dreams in California, each of our children — good, bright, hardworking, self-sufficient young adults — has left California to pursue their dreams in other places. The cost of buying a house, of subsidizing a state that cares more about the “global climate” than the business climate, the challenge of finding schools that actually educate children … these had become demanding and all-consuming problems.

People talk about “leaving a legacy,” but for many of us our legacy is leaving — our children, outfitted with U-Hauls, heading eastward to states that offer more promise than California.

This is why we fight.

WILL SWAIM | PRESIDENT

What’s with President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Lori Chavez-DeRemer to lead the federal Department of Labor? Never mind that she calls herself a Republican. ** ‘Climate Action’ Has California’s Energy Economy on Its Knees
------------------------------------------------------------
EDWARD RING | SENIOR FELLOW

Kern County, in California’s Central Valley, is being destroyed by a perfect storm of laws, regulations and lawsuits designed to eliminate oil and farming. Those industries have sustained Kern’s economy—and California and the nation’s—for over a century. But abetted by bureaucrats and opportunistic litigators, state officials have denied oil drillers and farmers the permits they need to operate, hit them with fines and crippling regulations, cut off their water, and sued them into oblivion...

** Orange County Classical Academy is a Model for Public Schools in California
------------------------------------------------------------
WILL SWAIM | PRESIDENT

Just-released state test scores show that the Orange County Classical Academy, a charter school in a working-class neighborhood in the city of Orange, is among the best schools in California. OCCA students outperform their peers in surrounding schools in English by 71 percent proficient versus 58 percent, 66 percent versus 46 percent in math and 54 percent versus 39 percent in science, despite OCCA’s funding disadvantage.

It’s no surprise then that OCCA has a waiting list of over 1,000 students...
