Piping Plovers.
This 2X match ends at midnight, so please don’t wait! ([link removed])
At one point the Great Lakes region was home to anywhere from 500 to 800 nesting pairs of Piping Plovers. But by 1990, that number dwindled to about a dozen pairs, all in northern Michigan. Now, the Piping Plover is endangered or threatened across every corner of its range—and if climate change continues unchecked, 87% of this bird’s current breeding range could be lost.
Numbers like these may cause some to lose hope for the survival of birds like the Piping Plover, but not us! Our mission is to protect birds and the places they need, no matter how big the challenges they face. That’s why, on Giving Tuesday and every day, we’re doing all we can to bring birds back. Right now, a special match means your first monthly gift will be doubled, up to $50,000 for vulnerable birds—but only until midnight! ([link removed])

For birds like the Piping Plover, decades of habitat loss and degradation have resulted in a worrying decline. Yet their story also proves that where there is action, there is hope: In recent years, they have returned to nest in several sites they had previously abandoned—and research shows our coastal stewardship is key to this recovery. It comes down to this: Where we work—and when friends like you help—birds are better off. But with so much at stake, we can and must do more.
