Dear John,

After lockdown ends, we can’t go back to the way things were before.

Many of us are longing for this period to end and normal life to return.
But we need to remember that “normal” was already a crisis. “Normal” was
rampant inequality, an economy that didn’t meet even people’s most basic
needs, and climate breakdown.

That’s why we’re calling on Boris Johnson to deliver a coronavirus
recovery plan that protects our public services, bails out communities
instead of corporations, and delivers us a safe climate and thousands of
good jobs with a Green New Deal.

We need a new deal from our government that prioritises people, invests in
our NHS and creates a robust, shockproof economy that is capable of
tackling the climate crisis. We’re calling for Boris Johnson and the UK
government to deliver a recovery plan that:

 1. Secures the health and basic needs of everyone – including food,
housing and income
 2. Protects and invests in our public services like low-carbon transport
and the NHS
 3. Delivers a safe climate and secure, unionised jobs with a Green New
Deal
 4. Invests in communities rather than bailing out toxic corporations
 5. Builds solidarity across borders – sharing health and wealth with
everyone.

The campaign to Build Back Better launched last week on International
Nurses’ Day. We at 350 have united with dozens of other organisations and
networks to call for a coronavirus recovery plan that puts people and
planet first. Sign the petition and we’ll keep you in the loop with the
campaign – including how you can take action in your community and
pressure the government to back our demands.
